Event Info

Saturday, April 22, 2017

The Dirt Devotion Derby has a 100K (3D) or 60K (2D) option. The route will travel through North Coastal San Diego County. The course is optimized for a road or cross bike with 28-32mm tires.

If you are registered for the Belgian Waffle Ride, 3D will get you familiar with some of the BWR course and mentally hardened for that epic event.

Post Ride – The ride will finish at one of North County’s (Newest / Greatest) Brewery and enjoy a brew and some food. Even if you miss the ride join us from 2 to 5pm.

INFO

Hope you all are ready for a fun time on Saturday (April 22nd). I have worked on crafting the courses that makes the most of the dirt sections that are scatter from Carlsbad to Black Mountain Ranch. There are lots of twists and turns. It is going to be a low key event. Spend the time enjoying the ride, minimize the pain. Remember the beer drinking cannot start before 12pm, so there is no reason to hammer the course.

I would STRONGLY RECOMMEND DOWNLOADING THE COURSE. The course is marked and a volunteer will be at key turns, but odds are you may still miss a turn.

Check In: Check in will be from 7am to 7:45 at Rouleur Brewing on Saturday April 22nd

Start and Finish: Rouleur Brewing, 5840 El Camino Real Suite 101 Carlsbad, CA 92008

100K Course Overview

I am excited about the course. It has a lot of hidden dirt sections, some flowing single track, a tunnel. We will have two official people riding the course. Brent Brenzlow will be with the leading the front group. Billy Duvel will be riding sweep.

The course can be ridden with a road bike with 28mm tires, but I would recommend 32mm Cross tires if you want better control on the dirt.

To give you the maximum amount of dirt there are several Hike A Bike sections. The dirt is sandy so I STRONGLY recommend mtn pedals and shoes. You can use road pedals, but if you are riding Speedplay road pedals, you better bring a tool to clean out the dirt.

Support

We will have a mechanic driving along the roads of the course. You are on your own on the dirt

60K Course Overview

The course will travel some of the same sections of the 100K, but will not have the steep climbs or as technical dirt sections. Dave Van Waldick will be ride leader for the route. The goal is to maximize the fun by keeping most of the group together.

The course is designed to be less technical than the 100K and 28 to 32 tires are optimal

Start Gravel Riding Today

Your current road bike can be used for an introduction to gravel riding. All you need are slightly bigger tires. Continental 28mm Gator Hardshell tires work fine for many dirt roads here in North County San Diego. I have ridden the BWR on 25mm tires, but this year I rode tubeless 28mm tires and was so glad I did.
